Not all fashion brands contributes meaningfully to the fashion industry, unlike Mhenase Touch whose creativity is breeding a new voice in the industry.
Mhenase Touch which was Founded by Amenawon Monica Okoh in Manchester, is a womenswear label that is quietly becoming one of the most interesting emerging brands in bespoke fashion. She mixes African heritage, contemporary style, and a very human approach to clothing in a way that feels both thoughtful and genuine.
The idea started as far back as 2014 from a dream and a lot of determination. Today, Amenawon under Mhenase Touch has created over 700 custom garments for clients across Africa and the Diaspora while studying and developing herself and refining her brand within this period.
The brand has shown collections on runways in Paris, Morocco, and London, and landed features in some pretty big fashion and lifestyle magazines both within and outside of the United Kingdom.
Mhenase Touch began as one woman's dream, that dream has turned into something that now speaks to many women. It has grown into much much more meaningful ideas and discussions about what fashion can truly offer to women beyond clothing.
The brand is built around a very simple but meaningful idea: that clothing should transform how you feel when worn. Every garment should be made with real intention, should be designed to help women feel bold, seen, and completely themselves. This idea is evident in her Obìrin collection. In every look, from the colours, the fabric choices to the structure and styling, you can feel the intentionality behind the designs and the genuine thought given by the designer to the women who would eventually wear them.
Creative Director Amenawon, with a Master's in Fashion Design and experience as a Costume Specialist for Opera Cymru, combines strong storytelling with good technical skill. Her designs don't just sit well on you, they seem to speak for you.
Each collection has its own personality. Her latest collection “Obìrin” celebrates womanhood with structured silhouettes that is inspired by Yoruba cultural background. Her second most recent “Beautiful Imperfection” pushes back against the idea that beauty always has to look perfect and instead embraces realness and individuality. “The White Shirt Project” brings everything back to the basic shape of a garment, while “Bliss & Glamour”fully celebrates bold, statement luxury. All these collections put together creates a body of work that is rich in culture and strong in visual presence.
With Mhenase Touch we found a brand that does not focus only on garment making, but has been used constantly as a platform for much more greater things including their Sustainable Workshop series, through which the CEO, Amenawon raised funds through voluntary donations from participants for Mary's Meals, a children's charity in the United kingdom, she also personally trained more than 24 women in circular fashion and upcycling techniques. Fashion for her is beyond just an industry — it is a tool for empowerment, education, and building community.
Amenawon’s work Obìrin has reimagined Aso-oke within the UK fashion scene. She has been able to bridge the gap between traditional African textiles and contemporary style, and she has done this with genuine respect for culture and creativity. Her Obìrin collection is sure to turn heads within the UK fashion industry and the diaspora.
From clients reviews we have seen, what her clients keep talking about is not the physical appearance of the garments she has designed for them — but about how they feel wearing them. They talk about feeling understood, celebrated, and somehow different when they wear them. With a 100% satisfaction guarantee and a growing community of women across several countries, the brand's reputation is really built on the women who wear it.
Mhenase Touch does not chase trends or keep up with the luxury fashion crowd. Instead, it is creating her own niche and doing greater and more meaningful things— she is setting a new example of what luxury can be when it's deeply rooted in culture, driven by purpose, and made for women who want to stand out in their own way.
